FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS INCLUSIVE SPORTING FACILITIES

Member for Curtin Julie Bishop MP congratulated Swan Canoe Club in Mosman Park on being awarded a Federal Government grant for the construction of purpose-built infrastructure allowing safe access to the water for those with disabilities.

Under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme Round Three the Swan Canoe Club will receive $10,000 towards the construction of ramps and widening of internal doors.

This project will deliver on the Club’s commitment to its members and to Rocky Bay Disability Services to strengthen the inclusion of people with disabilities in our community by removing physical barriers to the sport.

“Through building a more inclusive sporting facility the Swan Canoe Club can provide greater opportunities for those with disabilities and help them to realise their potential in the sport,” “Practical initiatives like this are essential to ensuring all Australians can engage fully in sport, school and our local communities.” Minister Bishop said.

The Stronger Communities Programme provides critical funding for small capital projects which deliver social benefits in local communities across Australia. Successful projects selected in Round Three have been awarded a total of $22.5 million nation-wide.
