Curtin students named runner-ups in national poetry awards

Federal Member for Curtin Julie Bishop received a visit from from two young budding poets who were recently recognised in the national Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards.

Saskia Fleming, 10, from Presbyterian Ladies College and Chloe Webster, 8, from North Cottesloe Primary School were named the runner-ups in the Upper Primary and Assisted Learning categories respectively.

The Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards is an inspiring national competition that encourages students to engage their literary talents and foster a love for the written word – an important foundation for students to build upon in their school years.

“I congratulate Saskia and Chloe on their significant result in this year’s competition – to be awarded the runner-up prize from over 10,000 entries across Australia is no small accomplishment,” Ms Bishop said.

“I encourage both girls and all students to continue to nurture their passion for the literary arts.”
