Australians encouraged to nominate for IYV+10 National Volunteer Awards

A new awards program celebrating the United Nations 10th anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10) has been launched to recognise the hard work of volunteers in the local community.

Federal Member for Curtin Julie Bishop said the IYV+10 National Volunteer Awards campaign will acknowledge those individuals who have made a considerable contribution to the Curtin community and acknowledge organisations with innovative models of volunteering.

“Volunteering is an important part of Australian culture which helps address human, environmental and social needs. It is also important way to ensure Australians feel valued and have the opportunity to participate in community life,” Ms Bishop said.

“The National Volunteer Awards are a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the tremendous efforts of those Curtin volunteers who contribute tirelessly to our community.”

Members of the community are asked to nominate outstanding volunteers and organisations within the local community, in the following categories:

  • MP’s Volunteer of the Year Award
  • Junior Volunteer Award (17 and under)
  • Young Volunteer Award (18-25 years)
  • Education Award
  • Environment Award
  • Long-term Commitment to Community Service Award
