Help raise money for breast cancer this Mother’s Day

Local Federal Member for Curtin, Julie Bishop has been appointed Ambassador of the 2009 Mother’s Day Classic and is calling on Curtin residents to join her in this national event to raise money for breast cancer research.

Inaugurated in 1998 in Melbourne and Sydney, the Mother’s Day Classic is a national walk or run held in more than 20 different locations around Australia attracting over 67,000 participants.

The Perth leg of the Mother’s Day Classic will be held Sunday, 10 May 2009 at Lake Monger, Wembley.

“Breast cancer is one of the major causes of cancer deaths for women in Australia and I encourage all Western Australians to slip into their running shoes and get involved in the Mother’s Day Classic to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation,” Julie Bishop said.

“Last year the Mother’s Day Class raised $1.2 million; this year we are hoping to raise more.”

Entries for this year’s Classic close 5pm on Wednesday, 6 May 2009. For more information, please visit the Mother’s Day Classic website at www.mothersdayclassic.org or contact Julie Bishop’s office on 9388 0288 for an entry form.
