Supporting small business in Curtin

Federal Member for Curtin, Julie Bishop volunteered her time to work at New Norcia Bakery, Mt Hawthorn and Shion Designs, Leederville last Monday as part of the Coalition’s Pollies for Small Business programme.

 

“The Coalition understands that small business is the key to keeping our economy strong and we are committed to gaining a better understanding of the challenges facing small business,” Ms Bishop said.

Labor leaves Curtin in lurch over scrapped solar rebate

The Rudd Government has brought forward its decision to scrap the $8,000 solar panel rebate to today, almost a month earlier than previously announced, creating chaos and distress for many Curtin businesses and residents.

 

Federal Member for Curtin, Julie Bishop said she had been contacted by many concerned residents and organisations left unprepared by the shock announcement of Environment Minister Peter Garrett.

Changes to disabled parking – does it affect you?

The Rudd Government’s proposed Australian Disability Parking Scheme may have a significant impact on Curtin residents with a disability.

 

Currently accessible parking schemes are independently operated by the States and vary in eligibility and reciprocal arrangements. This can often make interstate travel or a move between state jurisdictions very complicated.

Curtin residents receive top honours

Four Curtin residents were announced as 2009 WA Citizens of the Year in their nominated categories at a gala presentation and dinner last Saturday.

 

The local winners were:

Elizabeth Shaw (Claremont) - Youth Award
Professor Alan Robson AM (Crawley) - The Professions Award
Mark Barnaba (Subiaco) - Industry & Commerce Award
Jayne Smeulders (Nedlands) - Arts Culture & Entertainment Award
